Learn Chinese characters through play with CantoLingo's Swap & Steal™, a bridge-sized educational card deck for Cantonese learners, Mandarin learners, heritage speakers and native speakers. Play a competitive, character-combination game with two or more, or use the cards as a solo-player concentration game or as flashcards.

What's inside the box:

✅ 100 Chinese character cards plus 8 instruction cards, 108 cards in total.

✅ Standard Written Traditional Chinese characters with Cantonese pronunciation support in both Jyutping and Yale romanization systems.

✅ Simplified Chinese characters with Mandarin pinyin.

✅ Up to five character combinations on each card.

Who is it for?

Swap & Steal™ was designed to help you learn Standard Written Chinese characters, but is also fun for native speakers to play as well! The game for two or more players is designed for anyone aged six and above who is able to read the deck's 100 basic characters. For flashcard practice, anyone who can read can get started learning.

One deck, multiple ways to learn

Solo play:

"Concentration game" Choose one of the colors (blue, green, orange, purple or red). Place all 20 cards facedown on the table. Turn over two cards. If they make a combination, take them off the table.  If they don't, turn them back over. Keep going until all of the cards are revealed and matched.  You may also use the cards as flashcards!

2+ players:

Version 1: Deal seven cards to each player. Place the remaining cards in a stack in the centre. Take turns making two- and three-character combinations by picking a card from an opponent's hand or stealing a card from a displayed combination. After displaying your combinations, draw the same number of cards from the centre stack to replenish your hand so that you always have seven cards in hand. When the centre stack runs out, the player with the most cards in displayed combinations wins!

Version 2: Deal seven cards to each player. Place the remaining cards in a facedown stack in the center. Look at your cards and recognize what you need to make a combination. Get ready! Players take turns flipping over a single card from the center stack. Players then race to snatch the card and make a combination with a card in hand OR with a combination already displayed from a previous grab (to prevent an opponent from making a combination with a card in hand). The first player to get rid of all seven cards wins!

Packaging

Each deck comes in a cardboard tuck box that is protectively shrink-wrapped.
